Every day we breathe approximately 11,400 liters of air and unfortunately we spend 90% of our time indoors. The bad thing is that, unless you live in the middle of a congested urban center, the indoor air of the house is far more polluted than the outdoor one.
We are not just talking about dust mites, thedomestic pollution it can cause irritation to the eyes, nose, skin, headache, chronic fatigue, concentration problems, epidermal hypersensitivity, allergies, sinusitis, congestion, dizziness and nausea.
Where does domestic pollution come from?
It depends on the type of substance we are talking about. With the termdomestic pollution we refer to a long list of substances harmful to human health and the environment. The most common sources of domestic pollution are:
- VOC, volatile organic compounds, released by the great part of furnishing accessories, paints and other building materials.
- Carbon monoxide, produced by gas stoves, pellet stoves, fireplaces, kitchens, stoves ...
- Pesticides, left around by your dog / cat.
- Cigarette smoke, with all its constituents.
- Chlorine, especially in the bathroom, released with a hot shower.
- Dangerous toxic substances released with cosmetic products (perfumes, hair sprays ...)
- Carbon dioxide, especially in the bedroom.
- Pesticides, especially in the kitchen.
- Toxic substances released from cookware.
- Allergizing and irritating substances released with classic household cleaners.
- Radon, emitted from the ground: it can accumulate in closed spaces.
How to reduce domestic pollution?
In an ideal context, the user should perform the radon test, check for the presence of mold and monitor the levels of domestic humidity in order to adjust the percentage of water in the air. Furthermore, inside the house there should be a ventilation system equipped with a filter to purify the air in the house.
Unfortunately these interventions are not always easily accessible, however we can try toreduce domestic pollutionusing simpler and easier to implement strategies. To eliminate or at leastreduce domestic pollutionyou can try to change your habits and your way of conceiving the house.
The first thing to understand is that "fragrant "it is not synonymous with "clean". True clean has no odors! If you really can't do without the good smell at home, try to use natural essences such as rose water or essential oils. Avoid using rugs at home, the only rug to use is the doormat: place rugs at the entrance and invite your guests to wipe their feet thoroughly before entering. If you have pets, wash them often but not with artificial products.
