There falling moon, or descending moon, favors radical development. So it is the best time to do tree and hedge pruning work (which will lose less sap if pruned in falling moon), to make transplants, fertilization and to collect the roots. Millennia of experience say it.
Until a few decades ago, peasants watched i motions of the moon and stars before starting work in the countryside or managing livestock. Today, however, it is easier. The recovery of traditions and new technical-scientific knowledge give us the lunar calendars based on the lunar month: about 29 and a half days from new moon to full moon. Days vary from year to year.
The lunar calendar indicates the jobs to be done in the growing moon and those to be done in falling moon. Those of the falling moon are generally: the sowing and transplanting of root vegetables and bulbs, the cutting of construction wood, the pruning of trees (especially the most vigorous ones), the grafts, the removal of scions and cuttings, the pruning, the harvesting of fruit and bulbous vegetables, harvesting and harvesting. But there is the vegetable garden and there is the garden. So get yourself a lunar calendar where the four main phases are marked (full, waning, new, rising) and do this ...
Waning moon and vegetable garden
There are so many vegetables that it is good to sow in falling moon. For example lettuce, which if sown on a growing moon tends to go into seed and soon becomes hard. Or the onion, so as to concentrate the growth stimulus downwards and not upwards: also in this case this prevents the plant from going to seed too early. Then there are the broad bean, lentil and pea that give a more abundant harvest if they are sown a week before the full moon, practically straddling the transition between the crescent and falling moon.
Staying with the vegetables, all those to be preserved are good to collect them in falling moon. In the case of canned tomatoes, the first days of descending star should be exploited if you want the sauce not to be too watery and not very conservable. Garlic, onion and potato are also to be harvested in the phase of falling moon.
Waning moon and garden
There is a very strong bond between the flowers and the moon. Sowing and transplanting, if done with the right moon, which is the waning one, give better results. While trees and shrubs born and transplanted in the crescent moon develop better than those born or transplanted in falling moon. Among the flowers to be treated in falling moon there are roses, which benefit if pruning is done a few days after the full moon.
If you have fruit trees in the garden, remember that: walnut and hazel are negatively affected by intense moonlight that can cause the leaves to dry out, so they are better off in falling moon. It is in falling moon that you collect walnuts and hazelnuts if you want to keep them for a long time. The olives harvested after the full moon, then in falling moon, they are tastier and richer in oil.
How to recognize the waning moon? Always remember the saying: hump to the west crescent moon, hump to the east falling moon
