How to reuse flour, detergents with flour

  • Detergent for steel

A classic alternative use of flour is to clean steel, an economical and natural remedy. To clean it, simply sprinkle a soft cloth with flour and wipe the object to be polished: the flour is able to moisture and eliminate any residual soap and detergent.

  • Copper cleaner

To clean the copper, we can make a preparation with flour, vinegar and salt and vinegar. Just mix the ingredients in equal parts then rub them on pots and casseroles. With this procedure, the objects will regain the vivid color of copper.

  • Laundry detergent

Flour can also be used to make a laundry soap. Just get some Marseille soap in flakes to dissolve in a bain-marie with a little water: soap residues are fine for recycling. Once the soap has melted, add the flour and mix. Leave to cool and harden. As for the quantities, for a kilo of soap you need to add 2 tablespoons of flour

How to reuse flour with creative recycling

  • Salt dough

With flour you can make compounds to give vent to your creativity; this is the case with salt dough. For its preparation you need 250 ml of water, 500 grams of wheat flour and 250 grams of powdered salt. All the ingredients are put in a bowl and kneaded by hand until you get a compact but soft dough that does not have to stick to your hands
With the salt dough you can make decorative objects but it can also be a play tool for children who can thus shape it like plasticine: in this case they will handle a natural product.

  • Glue

By mixing the flour together with the water, we can make a glue very similar to vinyl: 100 grams of wheat flour are needed for every 1.5 liters of water. For preparation, you will need to boil the water in a pot and gradually add the flour, mixing with a whisk to avoid the formation of lumps. After adding all the flour, the mixture should boil for 10 minutes, taking care to mix, until a consistency similar to that of vinyl glue is obtained.
The flour glue should be used lukewarm, it must always be heated before use. It can be stored for 1-2 days before losing its bonding power.
